This past Tuesday we hosted another installment of our Virtual Masterclass series with entertainment attorney and producer Jonathan Gray, who tuned in from his office in Chelsea.

An established name in the New York indie filmmaking world, Jonathan is highly sought after by producers, distributors and filmmakers for his legal advice and creative consultation. Over the years Jonathan has acted as production counsel on several critically acclaimed documentaries and independent narrative films, including AMERICAN FACTORY, BLACK SWAN, and PRECIOUS.

During the class, Jonathan tapped into his deep well of experience to answer a variety of questions about best practices for Fair Use and the distinction between projects that are “inspired by” and those that “based on” real life events/figures. Jonathan also touched on several topics related to the business end of the filmmaking process, from pitching your film to distributors to the importance of retaining a sense of transparency when negotiating financing deals.

If you missed Tuesday night’s presentation, please sign up for our e-newsletter to receive further updates about our ongoing Virtual Masterclass series. Thank you to everyone who attended!
