This week was the official kickoff of our 2nd annual screenwriting seminar taught by filmmaker, film professor and Byrdcliffe Art Colony resident Alex Smith. In light of current social distancing measures, the seminar is being held online via Zoom.
Titled “Inducing the Athena”, the seminar will teach participants how to transform their story idea from concept to paper in a highly collaborative online format that incorporates both peer and instructor feedback. By the end of the course, students will produce a pitch, treatment, and outline that together form a cohesive narrative ready to be adapted to the silver screen.
Alex and his twin brother Andrew have written over fifteen professional feature film scripts and television pilots for HBO, Warner Bros., Disney Sony, FX, and more. The Smith's film WINTER IN THE BLOOD, a feature based on the landmark First Nations novel, won numerous awards and screened at the Woodstock Film Festival. Their most recent project WALKING OUT, starring Golden Globe winner Matt Bomer, Josh Wiggens, Bill Pullman, and Lily Gladstone premiered at Sundance and was distributed by IFC Films.
