Last night the 77th Golden Globes were held in Beverly Hills, where a diverse lineup of streaming giants, conventional TV networks, and independent creators gathered for an awards ceremony that many see as foreshadowing for the Oscars.

As with any awards show, there were snubs, upsets, and shoe-ins. Director Noah Baumbach and Netflix’s divorce drama MARRIAGE STORY took home one award despite being nominated across several categories. This lone triumph is solely credited to the fabulous Laura Dern, who won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for her portrayal of Scarlett Johansson’s campily cutting divorce attorney in the film.

Following its momentous sweep of the festival circuit and year-end bests lists, Korean auteur Bong Joon-ho’s anti-capitalist thriller and black comedy hybrid PARASITE took home the award for Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language. Hopefully its success will be repeated at the Academy Awards next month. Congratulations to our friends at NEON, who also had PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE in the same nomination category.

Another notable win from the night came from Lulu Wang’s THE FAREWELL, where actor/rapper extraordinaire Awkwafina became the first Asian-American actress to win the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. Peter Saraf, the Woodstock Film Festival’s founding advisory board member and longtime friend, produced the film under his company Big Beach.

Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees!
