As the 2020 Sundance Film Festival draws closer, the Woodstock Film Festival continues to cheer on alumni and friends whose films are slated to be screened at one of the world’s preeminent independent film festivals.

One such film included in this year’s features lineup is documentarian and producer Liz Garbus’ (WHAT HAPPENED, MS. SIMONE?, GIRLHOOD, THE FARM: ANGOLA, USA) narrative debut LOST GIRLS, a harrowing tale about a mother played by Amy Ryan (BIRDMAN, GONE BABY GONE, ESCAPE PLAN) searching for her missing daughter, who led a double life as an online sex worker before vanishing in an affluent Long Island neighborhood. The film is based on the bestselling 2013 true crime novel by award-winning investigative journalist Robert Kolker.

A Peabody and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, Liz Garbus’ films have received a bevy of nominations and accolades over the years, including two Academy Awards nominations, a Grammy nod, and multiple awards at film festivals around the world. A long time friend and a festival alum, for Woodstock’s 20th anniversary in 2019 Garbus sat on our Women In Film & Media Panel, where she discussed the highs and lows of working in the entertainment industry together with filmmakers Julie Taymor, Lisa Cortes, Pamela Yates, Hilary Brougher, and Geralyn Dreyfus.

Catch the premiere of LOST GIRLS on January 28th at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
