Sundance 2020: Michael Almereyda’s TESLA

The 2020 Sundance Film Festival starts next week in Park City, and there are several more exciting projects by Woodstock alumni worth noting. One of these is filmmaker Michael Almereyda’s (MARJORIE PRIME, CYMBELINE) TESLA, a new biopic about the brilliant but troubled inventor starring Woodstock Film Festival advisory board member Ethan Hawke.
The film covers the period of Tesla’s life when he is on the cusp of creating his revolutionary alternating current (AC) electric supply system. Locked in a bitter rivalry with fellow genius Thomas Edison, Tesla must navigate the highly competitive realm of intellectual property rights while keeping his eroding sense of sanity in check.
Award-winning filmmaker Michael Almereyda’s varied portfolio includes documentaries, features, and shorts that have been screened at some of the world’s top film festivals, including Sundance and Venice. His documentary, THIS SO-CALLED DISASTER: SAM SHEPARD DIRECTS THE LATE HENRY MOSS, screened previously at the Woodstock Film Festival with Almereyda in attendance.
Catch the premiere of TESLA on January 27th at the Sundance Film Festival.
