MELTER
A weary parking enforcement officer battles daily abuse from strangers and family alike. Terrorised by a group of teenagers who tour the village in their car, she is bruised from both her work and her strained relationship with her sister. Until an encounter with a desperate man forces her to confront the lonely rigidity that defines her life and affords her a moment of unexpected connection.
Melter is the second short film from Irish filmmaker & doctor Oliver McGoldrick, executive produced by Spike Lee (Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X).
Mixing personal drama with dark Irish humor, Melter toes the line between comedy and tragedy, ultimately embracing the power of community and hope for personal redemption. Shot on location in Northern Ireland, the film is now in post-production and seeking donors to help bring the story to completion.
Oliver’s short film Three Keenings (2024), a darkly lyrical exploration of grief, performance, and the forgotten rituals of mourning, premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in the Orizzonti Short Film competition, and officially qualified to be considered for the 98th Academy Awards® after winning the Tiernan McBride Award for Best Short Drama at the Oscar®-qualifying Galway Film Fleadh. Starring BAFTA-winning actor Seamus O’Hara (House of Guinness, An Irish Goodbye), the film also features an ensemble of celebrated Northern Irish talent, including Sean Kearns, Carol Moore, Niall Cusack, Caitriona Hinds, and Olivia Nash. Executive producers include Oscar®-nominated actor Ciarán Hinds, Bill & Kumi Martin as well as IFTA-winning actor Barry Ward. The film has been acquired by Canal+ and is currently featured on Aer Lingus flights.
Oliver grew up in the countryside of County Down, and graduated from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in 2017, working as a doctor before pursuing his Master’s in Film at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He divides his time between Northern Ireland, where he continues to work in medicine, and New York City, where he has graduated from New York University’s Graduate Film programme. He is currently in development for his debut feature, Barnyard through the Munich Film UP! 2025 Residency Programme.
