In the Wind

In The Wind follows a drifting musician with more doubts than gigs, as he sets out to scatter his father’s ashes only to be sideswiped by friendship and family in a comedy where closure looks a lot like a misfit adventure.

ABOUT THE FILM

After his father’s death, Miles West, a stalled and self-doubting musician, drives upstate with his old bandmate Jody Collins to scatter the ashes. The trip unravels when they arrive at Jody’s decaying family home, resurfacing unfinished grief, old resentments, and a buried conflict over a hit song that once bound them together.

Amid the chaos, Miles connects with Jody’s sister Dusty, whose warmth and dry humor quietly counter her brother’s volatility. As they spend time together, a bond forms through shared loss and small acts of trust. While Jody clings to past glory, Miles is drawn toward a different future—one where he faces the truth about the song, allows his grief, and risks believing in his own voice again, moving forward into the wind.

His first feature film, THE OH IN OHIO (2006), starred Parker Posey, Danny DeVito, Paul Rudd, Heather Graham, and Liza Minnelli. The Film premiered at SXSW and internationally at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Critic Wesley Morris called the film "one of the sweetest, smartest sex comedies I've ever seen." Billy's love of storytelling began with his father, who escaped from Austria to New York City as a child, just ahead of Nazi Germany's invasion. Billy's dad died when he was 17, and he's since pursued work that brings joy and laughter as a way to remember him.

Billy teaches directing at NYU Tisch, where his greatest joy is witnessing students bring their stories to life.
