ABOUT THE FILM: Argentina, 1985 is inspired by the true story of Julio Strassera, Luis Moreno Ocampo and their young legal team of unlikely heroes in their David-vs-Goliath battle in which, under constant threat, they dared to prosecute Argentina’s bloodiest military dictatorship against all odds and in a race against time to bring justice to the victims of the Military Junta.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR: Born in Buenos Aires, Santiago Mitre co-directed Love (Part One) which premiered in Venice’s Critics’ Week 2004. El Estudiante (The Student) (2011), his solo debut, won the Jury Special Prize in Locarno and was screened at TIFF and NYFF. Paulina (2015) won the Grand Prix of Critics’ Week and the FIPRESCI award at Cannes. La cordillera (The Summit) (2017) was selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes. He recently released his fourth film Petite Fleur. Argentina, 1985 is his fifth feature as a writer and director.
“Like a pair of old wingtips polished with wax, ‘Argentina, 1985’ spins a notable piece of history into an impassioned courtroom drama flecked with quaint humor.”
“It’s a forthright, muscular and potent movie.”
