Join us for an evening with Mary Stuart Masterson, screening her 2007 feature directorial debut THE CAKE EATERS. The screening will be followed by a moderated conversation and Q&A with Mary Stuart, inside the Hutton Brickyards Winter Pavilion. Doors open at 6pm, film begins at 7pm.

About the Film: Award-winning actress Mary Stuart Masterson made her 2007 feature directorial debut with this quirky small town drama that explores the lives of two interconnected families as they confront old ghosts and discover love in the face of devastating loss. Award-winning, critically acclaimed and produced in New York's Hudson Valley, THE CAKE EATERS is intricately woven and powerfully poignant, featuring a standout performance by Kristen Stewart and a brilliant ensemble cast including Aaron Stanford, Bruce Dern, Elizabeth Ashley, Talia Balsam, Jesse L. Martin and Melissa Leo.
Director's Bio: Mary Stuart Masterson’s 4 decade film, TV and theater career includes roles in AT CLOSE RANGE, SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL, IMMEDIATE FAMILY (National Board of Review Award), FRIED GREEN TOMATOES, BENNY AND JOON as well as the Broadway musical NINE (Tony Award nomination). Her recent film credits include DANIEL ISN'T, THE SENIOR (in post-production) and BORROWED TIME (pre-production).
Mary Stuart moved to the Hudson Valley in 2006 when she directed THE CAKE EATERS starring Kristen Stewart and Bruce Dern (released in 2009). It was awarded audience and jury prizes at numerous film festivals and screened at the Woodstock Film Festival.
In 2016 following a 10 year hiatus to raise her 4 kids, Masterson founded Stockade Works (SW), a crew training and mentorship non-profit focusing on residents of the Hudson Valley from diverse backgrounds. In 2020 she founded Upriver Studios, a women-owned and led climate-forward soundstage facility to create a jobs engine for SW trainees. Masterson is also a partner in Quality Pictures, a production company focused on content to be filmed in the Hudson Valley.
She and Quality partner Alexandra Brodsky recently directed two short docs for Departures. She will be directing the romantic comedy feature PRESS THE HEART for Phiphen Pictures in 2022-2023.
Guests are encouraged to sit in the front theater style section for uninterrupted viewing of the film. Guests are welcome to go up to the bar for beverage refills. In the back restaurant style section, guests are welcome to enjoy food & beverages throughout the film by ordering with their server.
Tickets are $15, with additional $25 minimum for Hutton Brickyards offerings. Attendees are encouraged to enhance their viewing experience by enjoying The Winter Pavilion Bar Bites Menu and a tasty beverage from the bar before, during, and after the film. Beer, Wine and Housemade speciality Cocktails Menu will be served. Complimentary popcorn is included with your movie ticket.
