Thespians rejoice! Join the Woodstock Film Festival in collaboration with the beloved Hudson Valley theatre group Actors & Writers for a staged screenplay reading of JANET’S PLANET directed by Actors & Writers member Shelley Wyant at the Rosendale Theatre in Rosendale, NY. JANET’S PLANET was adapted from Sebastian Stuart’s mystery novel To the Manor Dead.
SYNOPSIS:
After a messy divorce and fifteen years of listening to other people's sob stories, psychotherapist Janet Petrocelli is burnt out. For her next chapter, Janet has fled Brooklyn and opened a used-stuff shop in Saugerties. In spite of the move, Janet remains a magnet for nutjobs. In this case it's the Livingstons, an aristocratic family gone to seed in a disturbingly seedy way. Daphne, the clan's not-so-grand dame, is desperate to unload some heirlooms for quick cash, but the deal ends abruptly when she turns up dead. Janet gets obsessed with finding justice for the dead, and she soon she gets pulled into a tangled web of lust, lies, insanity, avarice and murder. Janet will nail the killer... if the killer doesn't nail her first.
“Janet’s dilemma—the empathy that pulls her into the lives of other folks, the exhausted cynicism that pushes her toward isolation—blends with the scars of her sketchy childhood and nasty marriage to create a bold, insightful amateur detective.”
