Golden Globes 2021: Nominee Highlights

The nominees for the 78th annual Golden Globes were announced today amidst an awards season delayed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Chloé Zhao's contemporary western NOMADLAND picked up multiple nominations across several categories, including Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director - Motion Picture, and Best Screenplay - Motion Picture. Producer and star Frances McDormand also received a nod for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama. NOMADLAND was the official Closing Night Film for the 2020 Woodstock Film Festival, where it won Best Narrative Feature.
Zhao along with fellow nominees Regina King (ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI) and Emerald Fennell (PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN) made history as the most women shortlisted for Best Director in the same year.
Also in the mix was Florian Zeller's THE FATHER, which received nominations in the Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Screenplay - Drama categories. Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Coleman picked up nods for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture respectively. THE FATHER was the official Opening Night Film for the 2020 Woodstock Film Festival.
In the TV realm, Netflix hits UNORTHODOX and THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT received nominations for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television and Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television.
UNORTHODOX director Maria Schrader was featured in our Virtual Films & Conversations online talk series last spring, while THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT director Scott Frank and executive producer Bill Horberg, a member of our advisory board, were part of a virtual panel held during the 2020 Woodstock Film Festival.
The Golden Globes will take place virtually on February 28th at 8pm ET.
