HASKELL WEXLER AWARD FOR BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY

Sponsored by Panavision NY

ON THE ICE
Director of photography Lol Crawley
Directed by Andrew O. MacLean

A person in a white winter coat with fur-lined hood running on snow, with a person in a white coat wearing a mask resembling a polar bear or animal, also on the snow. Snowmobiles are visible in the background on a snowy landscape.

Jury:
Haskell Wexler, A.S.C.

Winner received $15,000 worth of film camera equipment and a handcrafted trophy created by Steve Heller.

The award was presented by Ellen Kuras to producer Cara Marcous on behalf of Lol Crawley.

The following comment was released by Mr. Wexler regarding the film: "The selection of the best photography is very difficult. The one I have chosen, "On the Ice" shot by Lol Crawley, is noteworthy in a number of ways. Shot where the sun doesn't set until August, we see people moving in frames of negative space in incredibly difficult and artfully conceived shots. The party interiors offer smooth handheld work, where style fits visual storytelling in contrast with the formal, colder frames. All this is just me trying to give words to my subjective reaction to the visuals. And since I'm privileged to give this award, you can see that Lol Crawley's work deserves this Woodstock Award."
