Body Glitter

When a rural high school cheerleader catches her older sister buying a pregnancy test, she’s left carrying a secret that isn’t hers to hold.

SYNOPSIS

After discovering her sister, Gina, 19, quietly buying a pregnancy test, Presley, 16, is asked to keep a secret... one that belongs to someone on her cheerleading team. During practice, she watches the room, newly attuned to the vulnerabilities her teammates hold beneath the surface. In silence, Presley is left carrying this secret that reshapes her understanding of responsibility and sexuality.

FILMMAKER STATEMENT

I grew up in an overlooked, politically divided working-class community in rural northern New York. We affectionately call our region, The North Country. I have never seen my world accurately portrayed on screen, let alone by someone who was shaped by it.

Body Glitter is for girls in communities like mine who are asked to carry more than any young person should. It is about how young women quietly support one another. How responsibility is passed through proximity. And how we are marked by the pain of those closest to us.

The film is restrained in structure and deliberate in form, allowing intimacy, silence, and moral weight to shape how the narrative itself unfolds. Sexuality is not treated as spectacle, but as a private, lived experience. Tension emerges through the accumulation of emotional pressure until it grows so heavy, it begs for release.
