Woodstock, N.Y, September 26, 2024 — The Woodstock Film Festival is pleased to announce exciting new additions to its lineup of distinguished films including the Opening Night Film Men of War by Billy Corben and Jen Gatien, Nickel Boys by RaMell Ross, No Other Land  by Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, September 5 by Tim Fehlbaum, Rumours by Evan Johnson, Galen Johnson and Guy Maddin and Of Dogs and Men  by Dani Rosenberg.

The full program of the  Woodstock Film Festival, now celebrating its 25th year, will screen from October 15—20, 2024 at venues across the Hudson Valley towns of Woodstock, Rosendale, Kingston and Saugerties. The Woodstock Film Festival is curated by Head Programmer Meira Blaustein who also serves as Co-Founder and Executive Director and by Features Programmer Amir Bogen, with Amanda Naseem as Head Shorts Programmer.

This year’s silver jubilee program features previously announced new titles from renowned auteurs and emerging directors including centerpiece film Blitz directed by Oscar®-winning director Steve McQueen, closing night film A Real Pain directed by Oscar®-nominee Jesse Eisenberg, Sean Baker’s Anora, Emilia Pérez directed by Jacques Audiard, Oh, Canada by Honorary Maverick recipient Paul Schrader, Ernest Cole: Lost and Found by Raoul Peck, The Seed of the Sacred Fig by Mohammad Rasoulof, The End directed by Joshua Oppenheimer, Cannes prize-winner All We Imagine As Light directed by Payal Kapadia, Sabbath Queen directed by Sandi DuBowski, Nightbitch directed by Marielle Heller, The Remarkable Life of Ibelin directed by Benjamin Ree, The Uninvited directed by Nadia Conners, The Piano Lesson directed by Malcolm Washington, The Battle for Laikipia directed by Daphne Matziaraki and Pete Murimi.

This year’s Honorary Maverick Award will be awarded to acclaimed writer and director Paul Schrader. The award will be presented by acclaimed actor Amanda Seyfried who worked with Schrader on First Reformed. Known for his provocative contributions to both mainstream and independent film, Schrader’s collaborations with Martin Scorsese—including Taxi Driver (Winner — Palme d'Or, Cannes Film Festival), Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ and Bringing Out the Dead—are considered some of the most impactful works of screenwriting of the twentieth century. Schrader’s many writer-director credits include American Gigolo, Light Sleeper and First Reformed for which he was nominated for an Academy Award®.  Other credits include Affliction, The Card Counter; Master Gardener and his latest film Oh, Canada, in which he reunites with American Gigolo star Richard Gere.

A special screening of Oh, Canada, will take place on Saturday, October 19 followed by a conversation with Schrader.

This year’s Honorary Trailblazer Award will be awarded to renowned producer Ira Deutchman. Deutchman has been making, marketing and distributing films since 1975, having worked on more than 150 films including some of the most successful independent films of all time. He was one of the founders of Cinecom and later created Fine Line Features—two companies that were created from scratch and, in their respective times, helped define the independent film business. Deutchman co-founded Emerging Pictures, the first digital projection network in the United States and a pioneer in delivering live cultural events into movie theaters. Deutchman’s latest projects include feature documentary Searching for Mr. Rugoff, Nickel & Dimed and Radio Girls. In 2017, Deutchman was awarded the Spotlight Lifetime Achievement Award by the Sundance Art House Convergence for his service to independent film marketing and distribution. He is a Professor Emeritus in the School of the Arts at Columbia University, where he has taught since 1987 and was the Chair of the Film Program from 2011 to 2015.

Globally celebrated filmmakers and human rights activists Pamela Yates and Paco de Onís will be honored with the inaugural Art of Activism Award. Yates and de Onís are renowned for their Guatemala trilogy, which includes When The Mountains Tremble, Granito: How To Nail A Dictator and 500 Years. These films have been showcased globally and used as key forensic evidence in the genocide trial against Efraín Ríos Montt in Guatemala. Yates serves as the senior creative director with de Onís serving as the executive director at Skylight, a not-for-profit human rights media organization that combines cinematic arts with the quest for justice to inspire the defense of human rights. Their latest documentary, BORDERLAND | The Line Within, directed by Yates and produced by de Onis, is screening at this year’s festival and investigates the costly border industrial complex that targets immigrants.

The shorts programs include works from filmmakers Kim Snyder with Death By Numbers, Smriti Mundhra with I Am Ready, Warden, Alex Hedison with Alok, Nadia Hallgren with The Brown Dog, Bill Plympton with Duckville, Candy Kugel with Market Of Hate and Kimberly Reed with Seat 31: Zooey Zephyr.

This marks the third year that short films winning at The Woodstock Film Festival in the categories of Best Short Narrative, Best Animated Short, and Best Short Documentary will automatically be eligible to be nominated for an Academy Award in their respective categories.

The Woodstock Film Festival is committed to supporting local film production in New York’s Hudson Valley, and to nurturing and supporting emerging and established filmmakers worldwide by sharing their creative voices to promote culture, diversity, community, educational opportunities and economic growth in its community. 23 of the films in this year’s expansive program were produced or directed primarily in the region by filmmakers from the Hudson Valley burgeoning creative community.

The Woodstock Film Festival is proud to participate once again in a cultural collaboration with the Leiden International Film Festival in the Netherlands. The program entails a reciprocal exchange of films, enhancing cultural awareness and international exposure for both Dutch and American independent cinema. Amidst the softest distribution market in decades, at the peak of its popularity, documentary filmmaking has reached an inflection point. Independents Days is a unique series of talks woven throughout the festival, aimed at shining a light on the process of creating brave, distinctive art. – The world premiere of Beyond the Gaze: Jule Campbell's Swimsuit Issue followed by a Q&A with Director Jill Campbell, and supermodels Tyra Banks, Carol Alt and Stacey Williams. Following the Q&A, the audience is invited to a reception at Woodstock Playhouse with the film team.

– The world premiere of A Life in Rhythm: The Ray Conniff Story co-presented by BMI followed by Q&A featuring director Jonathan McHugh, producer and Ray Conniff’s daughter Tamara, and Woodstock-based composer David Kitay, moderated by BMI’s Vice President, Creative, Film, TV & Visual Media, Tracy Mcknight. Following the Q&A, the audience will be treated to live orchestral and DJ sets of Ray Conniff’s discography.

– Gun Violence & Youth Trauma in America: A special screening of Death By Numbers by Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Kim A. Snyder followed by a conversation with Snyder, Death by Numbers collaborator and school shooting survivor Sam Fuentes, Sam’s teacher Ivy Schamis, and Sandy Hook shooting survivors Emma Ehrens and Abbey Clements, now the co-founder of Teachers Unite Against Gun Violence.

– Following the screening of Left Behind, a conversation on the emotional impact of dyslexia within families and the global issue of the school-to -prison pipeline moderated by Juju Chang, Emmy Award-winning co-anchor of ABC News’ “Nightline.”

Girls Really Listen To Me, a one woman play, written and performed by Eleanor Greene, directed by Alex Prescot Living on the Upper East Side, 16-year-old Madeline is convinced that her actions have no consequences. But when her new friend goes off-grid after a party, she’s forced to look in a harsher light at the bubble she’s grown up in.

– Following the screening of A Photographic Memory, a special post-screening conversation with Director Rachel Seed and Center for Photography at Woodstock (CPW) Curator Marina Chao.


– The world premiere of It’s All Gonna Break followed a special post-screening Q&A and acoustic performance with Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning and Andrew Whiteman.

Other festival highlights include the annual awards ceremony on October 19, where honors will be presented for accomplishments in multiple categories including Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Ultra Indie and Best Short Documentary.

The Festival box office, located at 13 Rock City Road in Woodstock, is open Thursday, September 19 to Sunday, October 20, Wednesday to Sunday from 11am - 6pm and October 15 - October 20 from 11am - 7pm.
Online tickets are on sale now.

A limited number of passes are available for purchase online or at the box office. Reserve early as shows tend to sell out quickly. Tickets are available at the box office until four hours prior to each event. For sold-out shows, there will be a standby line at the screening venue.
