AUGUST 14-WFF PRESENTS STEVE JOBS: THE MAN IN THE MACHINE
The Woodstock Film Festival is excited to announce the special screening of Alex Gibney’s highly anticipated documentary STEVE JOBS: THE MAN IN THE MACHINE, courtesy of Magnolia Pictures. The film will screen on Friday, August 14, 9:30pm at Upstate Films Woodstock before the wide release in September.
From Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, the creator of such controversial and thought-provoking films as Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks, and The Armstrong Lie, comes another penetrating and contemplative exploration of contemporary society and the men and women who shape it: Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine.
Perhaps the most publicly revered corporate figure of the technology age, Jobs’s untimely death at the age of 56 in 2011 set off a worldwide outpouring of grief from consumers who worshiped his signature products such as the iPhone and the iMac.
Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine is no corporate sanctioned hagiography and was made without Apple’s cooperation or that of Jobs’ immediate family.
Gibney’s film is a laser-sharp and balanced assessment of the technology mogul, who was part iconoclast, part savvy corporate chieftain, part genius, and part tyrant. Even if Apple’s products carried a small “i,” the ego behind them was writ large. Like many gifted entrepreneurs, it was no accident that his public persona as the face of Apple often eclipsed the valuable contributions of his talented colleagues.
Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine is an evocative portrait of one man’s legacy. It unravels the larger than life myth Steve Jobs so deliberately crafted and examines the perpetuation of his values, which continue to shape the culture of Silicon Valley to this day.

SWEET 16 POSTER ART UNVEILED
The official poster art for the 2015 Woodstock Film Festival was unveiled at the FILM CENTER during a special reception on July 29. The festival welcomes animators and WFF alumni Joy Buran and Noelle Melody of JOY + NOELLE to the ranks of notable artists who have collaborated with the festival before.
"Woodstock is one of our favorite festivals, so we were pretty excited to be invited to illustrate the 2015 poster," said Noelle Melody. "When I visited the Film Center, we talked about palette and detail ideas, like scratched up stickers with the names of winning feature directors over the years. I invited Joy up for a little Drink and Draw session, meaning we drank a lot of coffee and sketched out the cake."
The 2015 poster is now available for viewing at the FILM CENTER, 13 Rock City Rd., Woodstock, NY. Signed limited edition prints and posters, as well as t-shirts, hats, and other commemorative merchandise can be purchased in person at the FILM CENTER or on our online store HERE.
Joy and Noelle both graduated with BFAs in Media Arts from Pratt Institute. Their thesis film was the first project they collaborated on and they’ve never looked back. Together they direct independent short films, animate commercial videos, illustrate children's books, and handcraft decoupage glass art for the home.
Joy and Noelle have done animation work for A+E Digital, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, TED, Transistor Studios and Hornet Inc, among others. The words “dark, cute, morbid, charming, wicked and funny” have been used to describe their style.
AUGUST 28-WFF PRESENTS BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION
The Woodstock Film Festival is excited to announce the special presentation of Stanley Nelson's critically acclaimed festival hit BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION before its theatrical release in September.
The one-time-only screening will take place at Upstate Films Woodstock, August 28 9:30pm and will include a special introduction by Emily Rothschild on behalf of PBS Distribution. Advance tickets are $10 and $15 at the door.
Change was coming to America and the fault lines could no longer be ignored—cities were burning, Vietnam was exploding, and disputes raged over equality and civil rights. A new revolutionary culture was emerging and it sought to drastically transform the system. The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense would, for a short time, put itself at the vanguard of that change.
THE BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION is the first feature length documentary to explore the Black Panther Party; its significance to the broader American culture, its cultural and political awakening for black people, and the painful lessons wrought when a movement derails. Master documentarian Stanley Nelson goes straight to the source, weaving a treasure trove of rare archival footage with the voices of the people who were there: police, FBI informants, journalists, white supporters and detractors, and Black Panthers who remained loyal to the party as well as those who left it. Featuring Kathleen Cleaver, Jamal Joseph, and many others, THE BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION is an essential history and a vibrant chronicle of this pivotal movement that birthed a new revolutionary culture in America.

The Woodstock Film Festival would like to extend a big thank you to Toyota. They join us a for a 4th year and consistently supply filmmakers, actors, and festival patrons with the highest quality hybrid vehicles.
Toyota believes that, "eco-cars will give a positive contribution to the environment when widely used."
They company aims to create a low-carbon society by responding to the need to diversify energy sources. They will continue to improve the fuel efficiency of conventional combustion-engine cars (which accounts for the majority of their sales), while improving performance, reducing costs and expanding the company's product lineup. Through these efforts, hybrid technologies (consisting of the basic technologies necessary for development of various eco-cars) are regarded as their key technology to achieving a high level of fuel efficiency and drive performance. More specifically, Toyota thinks that electric vehicles will be used for short distance travels, while fuel cell vehicles will be used for long distance travel. Additionally, they believe a majority of the currently operating vehicles will be replaced with hybrids or plug-in hybrids in the future.
